In every journey, there comes a time when the road ahead becomes blurry, steps feel heavy, and the dream that once burned bright starts flickering in the wind of doubt.
You may have been working on a business, a ministry, changing careers, a relationship, or a personal goal for a long time, but the progress feels slow. This might lead you to question your vision. If you find yourself in this season of life, you are not alone. Finding your purpose is a journey that is far from easy and requires embracing doubt, rather than pushing it away.
The Story of Honeybee Organizing: A Lesson in Perseverance
Honeybee Organizing came up with a business idea and started their business in 2018. One woman’s passion for helping others caused chaos. She worked extremely hard, offered free consultations, and poured her heart into this business for two years but did not see any progress.
Can you imagine the frustration? Watching others thrive while your dream struggles to gain momentum? She could have quit – even almost did. But she kept going, without losing hope.
In 2020, everything changed. Countries around the world went on lockdown as people were forced into their homes. People suddenly felt the need to organize all the items lying around their homes. Their need for organization turned into a full-fledged demand for storage solutions overnight. Demand for these solutions skyrocketed which transformed the once-struggling business into an essential service.
What changed? The world shifted, but more importantly, she was prepared. She stayed focused and did not abandon her vision.
This story reminds us that even if you do not see any progress despite your continuous hard work, sticking to your vision will keep you going. You’ve got to go back to why you started.
Remember this – When Uncertainty Feels Heavy
Whenever we feel uncertain about something in our lives, we start to question everything. Was that a good choice? Am I going down a rabbit hole? Should I just change course? But what matters is how determined we are during this time of uncertainty.
Here’s how you can stick to your mission even when things aren’t going your way.
1. Keep Watering Your Plants (Even When You Don’t See Progress)
Think of a farmer standing over his soil waiting for his seeds to start sprouting. We’d call that foolish, right? Growth takes time. You don’t get to control the harvest—but you do control the planting.
The effort you’re putting in today will never go to waste. All of the skills that you’re developing, the relationships being formed, all the lessons being learned, none of this is for nothing. Although you have not achieved the goals yet, that doesn’t mean it is not approaching.
Stay consistent. Keep writing, building, serving, and creating—your faithfulness today is the foundation for tomorrow’s breakthrough.
2. Position Yourself for the Opportunity
Honeybee Organizing didn’t scramble to build a business in 2020—it was already there, waiting for the moment when it was needed. Your preparation in the waiting season determines your readiness for the opportunity when it comes.
What skills can you sharpen? What knowledge can you gain? What connections can you nurture? Change can occur in the blink of an eye, however, only those who are prepared can take advantage of the moment when it arrives.
Noah prepared the ark prior to the rain. Are you building yours?
Setback fuel doubt. You might feel uninspired to pursue new opportunities. In such seasons, remind yourself about why you got started in the first place. Recast your vision, sharpen it and move forward.
3. Shift Your Focus: Seek God, Not Just the Outcome
It can get overwhelming especially if our peace is fixated on a particular outcome. However, God calls on us to trust him rather than the plan put in place.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…” Waiting is more than just being idle, it is something that requires trust and preparation. It is deciding to have faith and believe that even if there is no visible progress, God is doing something in the background.
Maybe the waiting isn’t about the dream at all. Maybe it’s about what God is doing in you while you wait.
4. Surround Yourself with the Right Voices
Who have you been listening to? Expecting something positive in a time of uncertainty can be extremely detrimental, but unfortunately very common. There will always be those people discouraging you by saying you need to be “realistic”, “ground yourself,” “take it down a notch” and “pick something easier.”
But God didn’t give them your vision—He gave it to you.
Surround yourself with people who will speak life into your journey. People who will remind you of your purpose when you start to forget. That’s why you need to be part of a community. This space exists to remind you that you’re not alone.
If you do have people in your life who see your vision, let us be those people for you.
- Tweak But Don’t Abandon
Success is not linear. If you’ve lived in Houston, Texas long enough, success will look like the interwoven highways. When you first put your destination on the map, you see 3 miles, right? Once you hit “start”, suddenly, you see 9.5 miles. How did that happen? Plans on paper are like direction. Action is reality. To tweak as you build, look back at past activities: what is working? No matter how small results might be, record them and identify what might be leading to success. Also identify leakages and put a stop to them. Through continuous tweaks, a system is built. But, if you abandon a dream, when the door of opportunity opens, you might be left scrambling to get it all together – don’t be a foolish virgin.
